Surface Pro 3 landing in UK

Microsoft is finally bringing its Surface Pro 3 tablet to the UK confirming that 25 more countries will get the tablet PC from 28 August.

The company confirmed that its latest effort to crack the Apple and Android dominated tablet market will pitch up in various different markets from the end of the month with a price tag that could put some off.

“From 28 August, the Surface Pro 3 will be available in: Australia, Austria, Belgium, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Korea, Luxembourg, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand and the United Kingdom,” confirmed a note on its site.

Customers in the US, Canada and Japan have been able to snap up one of the slates since June and in the UK the tablet starts off at £639 for the base model and stretches to £1,649 for the top of the range model.

Every tablet in the range has a 12in display and differs according to the processor onboard with a number of options that include Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 chips that are complemented by 64GB, 128GB, 256GB or 512GB of onboard storage, and 4GB or 8GB of RAM.

Microsoft’s tablet family is still struggling to make any headway in the market as a whole that is topped by Apple’s iPad that has 32.5 per cent of the market on its own and recent figures don’t even place Microsoft in the top five manufacturers.

Since the tablet was launched it has caused Microsoft to post mounting losses that currently sit at $1.73 billion [£1.03 billion] and the final quarter of the 2014 fiscal year was the worst period for losses.
