MiG-29 Crash in Gujrat

MiG-29 crashes in Gujarat's Jamnagar, pilot ejects safely

A MiG-29 fighter aircraft on a routine sortie on Friday crashed in Gujarat's Jamnagar district, with the pilot ejecting safely.

There was no reported damage to any civilian life or property in the incident, according to an official release.

"One MiG-29 aircraft of the IAF crashed near Jamnagar airbase on November 8, 2013 at about 11:29 am. The pilot, who was airborne on a routine flying training sortie, ejected safely," the release said.

The IAF has ordered a court of inquiry in the matter, officials said.

It may be mentioned that a MiG Bison aircraft of the IAF had crashed near Nalia in Kuch on November 24 last year though without any casualty.

However, several MiG fighter aircrafts have crashed in the state in last decade.

While two Mi17 helicopters had collided near Jamnagar killing nine air force personnel on August 30 last year, four people including two children had died and nine injured when a MiG-21 had crashed in Lakhabawal, about 20 km from Jamnagar on February, 2004.

Another MiG-21 crashed during a firing exercise near Jamnagar on January, 2006, with the pilot ejecting safely.

In June, 2006 another MiG-29 had crashed in the area.
